|
|
Just reminding everyone that tonight we'll be a rompin' through Warburg, collecting nukes and beating each other up classic PvP-style.
We'll be meeting around the hero base (the aircraft carrier housing the entrance helicopter and hospital) in Warburg at around 8:00PM EST. Hope to see everyone there!

Warburg Romp
April 14, 2008; Dark Insanity
|
|
So last weekend's Respec Task Force went pretty well: we finished in less than two hours, four of our own members showed up, and two new members were invited into the Justice Strike Force. Thanks for coming, JSF veterans, and a warm welcome to our two new members!
Anyway, in wake of the Respec TF's success, we'll be running another event at the same time next weekend (April 19). However, rather than running a Siren's Call Patrol or another task force, we're going to mix it up a bit and have a Warburg Romp. As a group we'll all help each other get nukes: the explosive temporary powers you get by completing a kind-of zone mission, much like the Shivans in Bloody Bay.
To get a nuke, you have to find three scientists within the depths of Warburg's "Web," then lead each of them to safety. From this you'll get three pieces of code, which you use to launch your nuke (of which you can pick from three different types of nukes) into geosynchronous orbit over Paragon City, and can then, through a temporary power, call it down at any time to explode all over whatever you want. Very useful for GMs or powerful AVs, such as Lord Recluse at the end of the STF, and it looks damned cool.
After everyone gets at least one nuke (maybe more if we have the time), we'll just split off into a nice big 'ole free-for-all PvP brawl. We'll have fun beating up our friends and fellow SG-mates, and anyone else who happens to be in Warburg at the time.
As always, your Justice Strike Force uniform is not required to be worn, but why not wear yours and show your JSF pride?
So I hope to see everyone in Warburg this Saturday, April 19, at 8:00PM EST. It'll be a blast!

Respec Task Force Tonight
April 12, 2008; Dark Insanity
|
|
Just a friendly reminder that tonight we'll be running the first Terra Volta Respec Trial!
Once again, the minimum level to join-up will be level 24, with levels 24 - 33 getting experience. Everyone else who is higher will be auto-exemplared. Also, remember, you can get a respec as a reward for finishing the task force! If you've made some regretful power choices, or just feel like having an extra respec on-hand, that's just more reason to show up!
And if you just feel like hanging out with some fellow JSF members for a few missions, feel free to show up!
SG uniforms are not required, but if you have one, it is suggested you wear it to show your Justice Strike Force pride!
So we'll be meeting up tonight at around 8:00PM EST for the Respec TF. Hope to see everyone there!

Respec Task Force
April 8, 2008; Dark Insanity
|
|
So it's been a while since the Justice Strike Force has run a planned event as a group.
And I think it's about time to break the little uneventful streak we're on here!
So I was talking with Green Warden, Man Of Elements, and Justice Reaper earlier, and we decided that it'd be cool to run a task force this week. We're planning on running a task force on the standard JSF-event time of Saturday at 8:00PM EST.
The task force we'll be running will be the Terra Volta Respecification Trial, better known as simply the Respec Task Force. At the end of the Respec TF you can choose a respec as a reward, so if you've been meaning to get a respec so you can rechoose your powers, or if you just want a spare, make sure to come! The minimum level to participate in the TF is level 24, with levels 24 - 33 gaining experience. Anyone else is welcome to show, though, as they will simply be auto-exemplared to level 33 (and, of course, they can still choose a reward at the end and everything).
So we'll meet at around 8:00PM EST this Saturday (April 12) in Independence Port near Jane Hallaway. SG uniforms are not required to be worn to the event, but if you have one, or have been looking for a reason to go create yours, feel free to wear it! Usually I and a few others are sportin' their Justice Strike Force-themed duds.
Well, it's been a while since we've held an SG event, so let's make this one count! It's always a good time when we get together, and if any of you new(er) members show up, it will give you a chance to get to know some of the other members you don't see online very often. Oh, and remember you can always check the events page for instant information on upcoming, and past, events.
Hope to see you guys there!

In-game Advertising
April 6, 2008; Dark Insanity
|
|
It's been announced that optional in-game advertisements are going to start appearing on the once mock-billboards of Paragon City.
Where in the world did this come from?
Alright, honestly, I'm only kind of surprised. I've always thought this would be a logical step for the game, considering the whole "city" atmosphere of City of Heroes, and the fact that there are already numerous billboards and signs in place around Paragon City, anyway. However, I am a little caught off guard by the fact that they're actually going to implement them, and that there had been no other announcements, that I can recall, even hinting at this.
The key word here, however, is optional. We'll be able to turn off the ads simply by checking a box in the options menu.
So, to me at least, this is a good move for the game: more money for the designers means more people working on creating new content and more people fixing old content faster and more efficiently. Some people have said, "Well if I have these ads on, I want my subscription fee lowered."
No.
That would defeat the entire purpose of the ads, which is to bring in more money to the game; if they put in ads but lowered the subcription price, they would be making the same amount of money. It doesn't make good business sense for NorCal, or, for the player, if you want more content faster. As they've been saying, they recently hired a bunch of new people, so I'm hoping that they'll be able to bring City of Heroes up to help it compete with Champions Online, once that monstrosity is released.
The only thing I'm worried about is what will be on the ads. It's not so much I care about what they're advertising, but how they look, exactly. I don't want any "real life" objects on them; photos of people, cars, kittens, or whatever. That would distract me from the game; drop me from my suspension of disbelief. I would like it much better if any ads with photos in them, they would replace the photos with a cartoon-y version of the same thing. The ad would be essentially the same, but it would work much better in-game.
Well, I'll definitely be watching to see how this progresses, especially once it hits the test server. It looks good, as long they know what they are doing, and it doesn't detract from the game. And, of course, you can always just turn them off.
