Editing Character Pages!
November 8, 2008; Dark Insanity
So, as I hinted at before, you now have the ability to edit your characters' member pages!

After who knows how long, I've finally gotten around to allowing edits to character pages again. To edit your characters, first log in to your Justice Strike Force account, using the nifty new link up there on the header. The whole login system is tied directly to the forum; hence your forum name now being required to match your City of Heroes global. Anyway, after you log in, you can either use the "Edit Characters" link up there at the top, or just browse on over to the edit characters page directly!

Once there, you'll see a nice big list of all of your Justice Strike Force characters, and buttons to view their individual member pages, edit their information, or delete 'em from the roster. If you choose to edit them, you'll find that you're able to edit their level, archetype, primary and secondary powersets, and their biography, as well as that you have the ability to upload up to four images or screenshots of each character! While you have basically unlimited space to enter your characters' biographies, with the images, there are a couple restrictions: they can't have an enormous file size, they have to be in the JPG/JPEG format, and they will be shrunk to 700x560 pixels for the majority of the places where they are displayed. You should definitely keep this resizing in mind as you upload images; I highly suggest that you resize and/or crop them yourself before uploading to avoid any kind of squashed-looking effect from any kind of weird ratio it might be changed to, or whatever.

So, sweet!

In addition to editing your current characters, you can also choose to add a new character, whereupon you will find you're only able to put in basic info. However, after you add them with just their basic stats, you'll be able to add more information, such as their biography or a couple images, through the same process you would just editing any of your other characters.

Nice!

So that's finally done with. If you have any questions, suggestions, or issues with the new character-editing system, make sure you contact me (Dark Insanity). I need all the feedback I can get, as I can only do so much testing on my own! Oh, and if you're wondering how to edit your current prestige or your joined date: you can't. That's left for the officers to keep up to date, so if you notice your prestige is way out of date feel free to bug one of them into changing it.

And what's next? Well, I'm not really sure. I was thinking about re-doing the way out of date base section of the site, but with all of the pricing changes for bases coming out in Issue 13, it'll just be out of date in a month or so, anyway. So I'll either do nothing 'till then, or maybe re-do the events or join sections or something. Or maybe I'll actually just play City of Heroes for once.

Once again, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to send 'em to me!

Dark Insanity
i13 in Open Beta

So Issue 13's now in open beta status!

Some of the shields look pretty beastly (there's a lot more than I thought!), and the powerset itself doesn't look too bad, either. They've also completely redone the way the badges are organized, and that's pretty nice, though it's harder to tell where certain badges should be. And the drop-down menu makes me feel a little claustrophobic when looking at my badges. Oh, you also have the ability to save and load costume designs now, too, so that's pretty sweet.

And you can copy and paste text now!

So that's just some of the stuff out of the five minutes I spent there. Issue 13's shaping up to look pretty alright, though there's a few things in that five minutes that also show that it's definitely still a beta. Like the color options being messed up in the character creator, for instance. But yeah, it should only be a couple more weeks before it hits live, and we can all run around looking at the Captain America clones while waiting for Issue 14!
